Johnson outpoints Ferguson

Michael Johnson bested Tony Ferguson in Saturday's clash of reality-show stars in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Johnson received a unanimous 30-27 decision against Ferguson to take their lightweight bout in East Rutherford, N.J. Both men won UFC's reality program,The Ultimate Fighter, with Johnson emerging from Season 12 and Ferguson capturing Season 13.

Neither man inflicted serious damage on each other on Saturday, but Johnson throughout the fight landed strikes more accurately. They threw mostly solo strikes for much of the fight, but in the final minute Johnson started firing combinations.
It was the last bout of UFC on Fox 3's preliminary card, which produced several decisions. Results from the other prelim fights:

• John Dodson defeated flyweight Tim Elliott via unanimous decision in a speedy fight punctuated by occasional acrobatics such as somersaults and spinning kicks. Though he often circled away to avoid Elliott's array of kicks, Dodson landed several solid strikes in the first two rounds. Elliott recovered well enough from the blows -- as well as unintentional shots to his eye and groin -- to take the third round on the judges' scorecards.

Dodson returned to the 125-pound division, where he spent his entire career before joining UFC as a bantamweight for Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, which he won.
• John Hathaway earned a unanimous decision win against Pascal Krauss in their welterweight affair. Hathaway floored Krauss with a knee strike to the face in the first round and took him down multiple times during their fight. In the waning moments of the third round, Hathaway connected with well-placed punches and another knee strike to have Krauss backing up.

• Danny Castillo took a unanimous decision to win a slow-paced fight against John Cholish. The lightweights at times seemed tentative, settling for single strikes or brief clinches. But Castillo was moving forward while Cholish circled away much of the bout.
Castillo also scored a well-timed takedown just before the end of the second round and ended the third in top position after Cholish desperately jumped into a unsuccessful attempt at a leglock.
• Dennis Bermudez slammed his way to a decision victory against featherweight Pablo Garza. To neutralize his opponent's superior reach, Bermudez worked his way inside quickly during the stand-up action and clinched with him for takedowns, including several flashy slams.
